Broward County is located on the south eastern part of Florida and is in the subtropics - Zone 10. We have a monsoonal climate with the rainy season in the summer and upwards of 2" of rain can fall daily.

Considering the temperature is often in the 90's, we welcome the rain because it cools things off and can drop the temperature by between 10 to 15 degrees

Because South Florida was once an underwater coral shelf, our soil is sandy with coral below and consequently it "perks" extremely well.

Mostly our water and soil test out alkaline so there are some plants which require a high acidity which we just cannot grow - proteas, for example. We are able to grow a large number of exotic subtropical and tropical plants in our backyards which gardeners in other parts of the country can only dream about.

We support the partnership between National Garden Clubs and Habitat for Humanity by not only donations but by physically joining with volunteers from other organizations in the landscaping projects of Habitat homes in Broward County.

Being in the garden club is good for your body, your mind, and your soul.
Not only are we interested in soil, climate, and the growing conditions of just about everything, we are also interested in teaching children about nature, caring for the environment, and tapping into our creative energies through floral design. This is only the beginning of the things that members of a garden club can do.
