Chairmen Speak Out!

Environmental/Water Conservation Chairman Louisa Foss offers some simple ways to decrease our carbon footprint!

Water:

Shower....A tub of water uses 35 gal. of water. Showering uses up to 12.

Shampoo without the water running. suds, then rinse.

In the garden:

Use drought tolerant plants

Limit lawns, grass, as much as possible.

Use organic matter when planting flowers and mulch after planting

Energy:

Update appliances. New models will save you enough energy in a year to pay for itself

Unplug unused appliances. They used electricity when not in use.

Paper:

Use a dish towels instead of paper towels.

Buy recyclable paper products

Plastic:

Plastic bottles do not biodegrade!

Saving Water Indoors
Saving water inside the home is simple. Fixing leaks & replacing old water-guzzling plumbing fixtures with water-saving ones could save you thousands of gallons of water each year. Some practices to save water indoors include:

•        Run the dishwasher only when you have a full load
•        Set clothes washers for the appropriate-sized load
•        Turn off the water a you brush your teeth, wash your face or shave
•        Check for leaks in fixtures & appliances. Replace broken or worn out parts
•        Dispose of tissues, insects and other such waste in a trash can rather than in the toilet
